You finish a required training module in HF University, reach the end, and move on with your day.
Later, you check your assigned training again.
The same requirement still appears due.
That doesn’t automatically mean you need to take the entire course again.
Henry Ford Health uses HF University for employee learning, including mandatory and recurring training. When a completed requirement still looks outstanding, the useful question is which part of the training record hasn’t been satisfied or updated yet.
First, Confirm That the Course Actually Reached Completion
Opening every page isn’t necessarily the same thing as completing a course.
Some online modules can contain a final acknowledgment, assessment, or another required step before completion is recorded.
If the course still appears due, go back to the training record and determine whether it shows an actual completion.
Don’t rely only on remembering that you reached the last screen.
There is an important difference between:
Course opened
Content viewed
Assessment completed
Course completed
If HF University recorded only one of the earlier stages, the requirement may legitimately remain outstanding.
Check the Completion Date
The date can immediately explain some confusing situations.
Suppose your record shows:
Course completed: November 14, 2025
but your current requirement is:
2026 Annual Training
Your previous completion can be perfectly valid while still not satisfying the new annual assignment.
Henry Ford Health specifically uses annual training courses for organizational and accreditation-related requirements, so seeing an older completion doesn’t necessarily mean the current assignment is duplicated.
Always compare the completion period with the requirement currently showing as due.
The Course and the Curriculum May Not Be the Same Thing
This distinction is easy to miss.
You might complete an individual module that belongs to a larger assigned curriculum.
For example:
Module 1 — Complete
Module 2 — Complete
Module 3 — Due
Overall curriculum — Incomplete
If you look only at the first completed module, it can seem like HF University is ignoring your work.
Instead, open the assigned curriculum and check whether another component remains.
Henry Ford’s onboarding materials, for example, specifically refer to automatically assigned training curricula rather than treating every requirement as one standalone course.
Look for a Required Assessment
Some training isn’t complete merely because the instructional material was viewed.
If an assessment is part of the course, check whether it was submitted successfully and whether any required passing condition was satisfied.
Don’t repeatedly replay the entire training before checking this.
You may have completed 95% of the requirement and simply missed the step that records completion.
Make Sure You’re Looking at the Correct Version
Course names can be very similar from year to year.
You may find an older item in your training history with almost the same title as the current assignment.
Compare:
Course title
Assignment period
Completion date
Current due date
A certificate or completion from an older version doesn’t automatically establish that the current assigned version has been satisfied.
This is particularly relevant for recurring compliance education.
Give a Newly Completed Course Time to Update
If you finished the module five minutes ago, don’t immediately assume the system failed.
Exit the course properly, return to the training area, and check the resulting status.
If the course completion is recorded but another page hasn’t reflected it yet, there may simply be a difference in when the records refresh.
The important thing is to determine whether HF University itself has captured the completion.
If it has, you have something concrete to reference if the outstanding requirement remains.
Save Evidence of Completion
When available, retain useful completion information.
That might include:
Course title
Completion date
Completion status
Applicable certificate or completion record
You don’t need screenshots of every page in the training.
You need evidence showing that the relevant requirement was actually completed.
That becomes especially useful when a deadline is approaching.
Don’t Retake Training Blindly
If HF University clearly shows:
Completed — September 28
but another assignment continues to say overdue, immediately taking the same course again may accomplish nothing.
First determine whether you’re dealing with:
A different course version
A different curriculum
A recurring requirement
An incomplete assessment
A record that hasn’t updated
Retaking a two-hour course won’t fix the wrong problem.
Pay Attention to the Due Date
A discrepancy matters more when the deadline is close.
If training is due October 31 and you completed it October 10, you have time to identify why the requirement remains open.
If it’s October 30, don’t simply wait and hope the status changes.
Review the completion information and use the appropriate Henry Ford support or HR/training channel if the record still doesn’t make sense.
New Employees Should Check the Assigned Curriculum Carefully
This is particularly important during onboarding.
Henry Ford’s published onboarding instructions state that mandatory online training is automatically assigned in HF University and tell new employees to verify that the appropriate orientation curriculum appears.
That means a new employee can have the opposite problem too:
the issue isn’t that completed training remains due—the expected curriculum may not have been assigned correctly in the first place.
If the required onboarding curriculum isn’t there, don’t substitute some similarly named course and assume you’ve satisfied the requirement.
Identify the missing assignment.
Report the Exact Mismatch
If you need help, avoid:
“My training isn’t working.”
Provide the actual discrepancy:
Course: Annual Compliance Training
Completed: September 28
HF University status: Completed
Assigned requirement: Still shows due October 5
Or:
Curriculum: New Hire Curriculum
Modules completed: 5 of 5
Overall curriculum: Still shows incomplete
That gives the person reviewing the issue somewhere specific to start.
Completion and Assignment Status Should Tell the Same Story
HFHS Connect provides employees access to HF University and other Henry Ford resources from outside the workplace, while HF University serves as the organization’s employee learning environment.
When training you’ve genuinely completed still appears due, don’t assume either that you failed or that the warning can simply be ignored.
Check the exact course.
Check the year or version.
Check the curriculum.
Check for assessments.
Confirm the recorded completion date.
Then address the specific mismatch.
The goal isn’t to make the warning disappear by repeatedly taking courses. It’s to make sure HF University accurately recognizes the training requirement you’ve actually completed.
